Show Stories - KOI fest Kitchener Sept 18th 2010
I woke up at the band house at about 9 a.m. I got my shit together and drove home. I made a coffee and crawled in to my hot tub. I chilled in there for about an hour. Then I went and got breakfast materials for my girls. I made them breakfast. I washed my outfit and put it on. I opted to drive separately because I had another engagement to attend to after the show. When I say I opted to drive, that usually means that my beautiful girlfriend will drive me when I end up getting drunk later. We drove up to Kitchener. I was really excited about this show. It was the first annual. It was put together entirely by Cory Crossman and his brother Kurt Crossman. This is very important because Cory toured with us for about 2 years and played bass. If you go to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/youthinasia you can find some older photos that include Cory. Although he is extremely busy with his clothing business, and promotion business Cory always makes himself available to us. The Crossman’s and their parents and family have always been amazing to our band. I think KOI fest will be enormous someday. When we got in to Kitchener we saw the rest of YOUTHINASIA postering. I honked at them. Then we went and parked. We walked down to King St. Instantly we met up with the band. Our friend Callum was with them. Callum is funny. He really likes all kinds of drugs and booze and says extremely offensive things in public, in front of whomever. That is what makes him awesome. Whatever you are, be great at it. Naturally we decided to go to a bar. I had to get my girlfriend and I our bracelets. I called Cory. We met up at the registration tent. Cory looked like a big shot. He had a walkie talkie and looked really really tired. He gave me a mineral water. It was good. Then we walked down to the bar. It was called O'Brians and something. Regardless it's that bar beside The Wax. I crushed 8 double vodkas and a pint of Coors Light. Callum said a lot of offensive things. People don't look highly on loud talk about periods and vaginas. Then we went to the venue, Capers. We had to load in. That's when I remembered that Banger put a hole through my cab. We loaded our shit in to the venue. Rob Crossman was our stage manager. He had a few beers in him. He is awesome. Remember that other bands mailing list from Barrie? I found it in our trailer. There was a wedding party taking pictures beside the venue. It was weird. Original though. We loaded all of our shit in. The band that played before us was "Mockingbird, wish me luck" I don't think they need luck though, because they are very good and apparently are opening for Alexisonfire for a few dates. They are pretty awesome. I set my shit up. Then I went and got a double vodka. Then it was time to set up. We set up and tuned. Then YOUTHINASIA played a pretty radical set. We are pretty awesome. The crowd was kind of scared of us. Trev asked them to come closer. They did. Oh ya, Rob Crossman introduced us with his stripper voice. That was neat. Then we finished. Some girl fainted because we were so awesome. That was a joke. Nobody fainted. After we played we loaded our shit out. I think that's where I met Jon, he is a nice guy. I also did shots with some other dude. I can't remember his name. He was awesome though. He also introduced me to his crazy ginger, newfie brother. That guy was amazing. He had a tattoo that said something like " I iz a Newfie". I also met a really pretty and nice girl that was pregnant and still came to see us. She wanted to give that little fetus some killer punk rock in a sound dampened room. She was with Adam. He is the one that injected his sperm into her, thus resulting in said fetus. Then I ran in to Steve Stumble. Steve is a fucking awesome guy and runs S.C.E.N.E FEST in St. Catherines. He is right punk rock and a really nice guy. He plays in the band called "The Lucky Ones". They are fucking awesome. He is a staple in the Southern Ontario music scene. I bought him a beer I think. Then I found out my friend Eric was playing at One Eyed Jacks. Eric plays in a very cool acoustic outfit called "The Clearing". We went there and Steve and Ev Crossman were there. They are Cory's parents. They always tolerate my drunkeness. Steve and I talked about my uncle Doug Jarvis coaching the Boston Bruins this year. My uncle is awesome! Then some weird old guys showed up wearing some weird sleevless vest. He seemed like a washed up jock and hit on my girlfriend a lot. He was harmless though. He made fun of Callum and Trev for wearing touques cause it was too warm for touques. Trev told him to put on some sleeves cause he looked like a re-tard and then left. I drank some more beer. Then "The Clearing" finished their set. I got to talk with Eric and his girlfriend Kate. Kate is really hot and super nice. She's the kind of combo you would slap your momma with. We talked for a while. My girlfriend and Steve and Ev wanted to go see "Die Manaquin". I really, really, really, hate that band though and I refused to go watch. Granted, their singer can fucking belt it, and she has an amazing voice. However I think it is the most over produced, lyrically retarded, auto tuned shit ever. So I opted to go home. I also should mention that I really, really, really, regret not staying to watch Anti-Flag. However I had an engagement to attend, that I would not have missed for the world. My patient, beautiful, and ever loving girlfriend got me to the car and drove me home. What a great fucking day.
